Welcome!

The Feayran Project is an endeavor to create a completely original language spoken in the fictional world of Domhantir. The project began in December of 2007 and has since generated interest in both creative writing and language-construction circles. A group of particularly awesome people are even working on learning the language for themselves.

Why learn an invented language?

Authors from the Domhantir community interested in penning tales about the feayr, Feayran's fictional speakers, have found that the language is an invaluable window into the feayr's culture and mindset. Language enthusiasts have enjoyed investigating Feayran's grammar and syntax and the unique ways that it expresses ideas. And others, like me, think of languages like candy and don't need much motivation in the first place.

What's this website for?

On this website, you can find a collection of translated Feayran texts, a technical reference grammar for the linguists in the audience, and an ever-growing language course for those interested in learning to speak and write in Feayran. Additionally, you can find information about the feayr themselves, as well as look-up materials for language learners.

Phew! Awful long time to finish the "almost complete" Reference Grammar, eh? But at last, victory is mine! ...mostly.

There are still a few pieces to fill in--most obviously the Phonotactics section, but the Pragmatics section needs fleshing out and the Syntax section needs vetting (since I'm fairly confident that I'm doing it wrong).

I've ironed out most of the technological wrinkles, but I'm still having some minor issues with Internet Explorer and Firefox on the reference grammar pages.

But on a more positive note:

That is the sum of my labors to date, though I am continuing to work on Little Raven, Big Elk as my schedule allows. Expect much more once school gets out!

Check it out! New website look! A vast improvement over the last one, methinks.

On a more pertinent note, the Reference Grammar revamp is almost complete, and the folktale Little Raven, Big Elk is nearly ready to be translated into English. Huzzah!
